Transferring an apartment deposit?

I have lived in the same complex for 4 years my landlord has allowed me to move to 3 different apartments in that time each time transferring the deposit from the original apartment. Well we recently moved into a house and she told us that she was keeping the deposit of $250 because we threw a couch away and placed it next to the dumpster when we lived in the first apartment and shes claiming the charge for hauling the couch away takes the entire $250 deposit so what I am wondering is since we have moved to multiple places since and it was never mentioned that we had to repay the deposit during any of the moves can she legally keep our deposit? We live in the state of Kansas
